From the beginning, architectural photography has been one of Thorney's passions. His distinguished career started in New York City in the early 1970's as the principal photographer for world renowned architect I.M. Pei. He has been published in many publications, including Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, and many others.

He has just completed his third book, "The Kentucky State Capitol Building", the second in his series of books of photographs of state capitol buildings.
